Military CARC

Production Paint Finishers are certified specialists in painting and coating to military specifications. As the name suggests, Military Chemical Agent Resistant Coatings (CARC) are used extensively on military vehicles and equipment. These coatings produce a non-porous coat that impedes radioactivity, chemical, and biological contaminants from penetrating the coating and the base material. Instead of penetrating the coating, chemicals bead up on the exterior of the surface and are washed off easily. CARC is required to resist chemical attack from aggressive cleaning detergents used for decontamination of vehicles. In turn, these vehicles can be used over and over again without the concern of future contaminants. This also provides the security of resisting further chemical attack.

CARC is pretreated to TT–C-490 and coated to Mil-DTL-53072.The most popular coatings in Mil-DTL-53072 are as Mil-DTL-53022 – Solvent base epoxy primer, Mil-DTL-53030 – Water base epoxy primer, MIL-DTL-64159 – Water borne polyurethane chemical agent resistant coating, and MIL-DTL-53039 – Polymeric polyurethane single-component chemical agent resistant coating.
